PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil

Generally safe·Strong evidence

A higher-molecular-weight polyethylene glycol ester of hydrogenated castor oil, used as an emulsifier in creams, serums, and other formulations. Like other PEG-modified ingredients, published cosmetic safety assessments grade it as safe in rinse-off and leave-on products.

The myth vs the evidence

Claims that PEG ingredients cause systemic absorption or contain dioxane are not supported by published cosmetic safety assessments. The concern stems from outdated manufacturing processes; modern PEG production uses well-controlled methods.
