Ceresin
A refined mineral wax used to firm up ointment and balm texture and help form an occlusive barrier alongside petrolatum. Highly refined cosmetic-grade mineral waxes have long been reviewed as inert at the concentrations used in personal care products.
Because it is petroleum-derived like paraffin, it sometimes gets swept into "petroleum products are toxic" claims online, but the cosmetic-grade refined wax used in ointments is a purified, inert texture agent, not the crude byproduct the scare stories describe.
