Questions

Is sorbitan olivate just olive oil?
No, sorbitan olivate is an engineered emulsifier derived from olive oil and sorbitol that holds water and oil together in formulas. Unlike plain olive oil, it's designed to stabilize emulsions and is typically used at low concentrations (under 10%). The CIR Expert Panel concluded in 2002 that sorbitan olivate and related esters were safe for cosmetic use.
Is sorbitan olivate safe for sensitive skin?
Published safety assessments show sorbitan olivate causes minimal to mild skin irritation in human tests and is nonsensitizing. It is graded low concern in cosmetic ingredient reviews and is well tolerated at typical use levels.
